My first Taylor was a 418e a couple of years ago. Really great guitar, complex tone, very responsive. But since I got the 514 LTD about a year ago, its been seeing less playing time.... But it's still a great guitar.

I am fortunate to own a 2016 Taylor 818e, and it is by far the best sounding Taylor I have played, and it is my favorite one, if I had to pair down to just one. I traded a 718e Sassafrass limited 2014 for it and spend 20 minutes a/b'ing them and the 818e beat it out on volume and low end. Close, and if I had kept the 718e I would have been happy. But the 818e was/is my choice for Taylors lineup

I'm holding out for a 458e-R but yeah, I'm smitten. I played an early GO in sitka/mahogany when they first came out that had some real presence.
