I read a fascinating history book on Martin Uke's and how they saved the company - really amazing stuff. The story, alone, made me want a Martin ukulele.

Those Moorbettah's are way too gaudy for my tastes.

Thanks, I knew they were making ukes again but didn't know they'd revived the 5K. The new ones look real good too. Of course, vintage is always in demand, and there's something appealing about the absolute pinnacle Holy Grail version of an instrument topping out at a relatively mere 15,000. Still, when it comes to ukuleles, great sounding as they can be, the 5K, and these as well

Then again, here's a vintage 5K in the hands of the great James Hill ... not too shabby sounding ....

Several years ago, I was visiting relatives in Harrisonburg, VA and I visited a local small music store. Nothing to speak of up front but I went into the back room and the guy had a collection of primarily Martin Ukes. By "collection", I mean all 4 walls covered floor to ceiling. I thought, "what a boob sinking money into all these ukuleles. Who will ever want to buy these?".

Next time I was by there, they were closed but I bet they cleaned up on those ukes.

I played a mid 20s 2k today that was in great shape and surprisingly the two 0 style Martins of similar vintage that were in the store sounded much nicer. Considerably better sounding ukes than any new ones in the same price range.

Not all of Chuck’s ukes are “gaudy”. He makes plenty of unadorned ones. Sound-wise they are absolutely amazing.
