So many great songs, quite a few I know and play, looking forward to listening to some I haven't heard of.
Here's a couple written/performed by my friend Steve Gillette the first is 2:10 train, I prefer his later performance from his Texas & Tennesee recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYbMZsEqMZo the second is "Always a train in my dreams" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pAZ-4XhKuI and he and Cindy Mangsen do a version of "Jay Gould's Daughter" on their "Live" recording, here's Happy Traum's version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cOxsA4nWXc Someone asked earlier about another artist who does "Panama Limited" other than Tom Rush, here's a version by Bluesman Doug MacLeod https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2R8OTXJsxw |

Have we made mention of the first train song most of us ever learned to sing: "I've Been Working On The Railroad"?

You beat me to it, perhaps not what many will think of as a train song, but it has always been a favorit of mine.

Crossing # 9, Slow Train Through Georgia - Norman Blake
Aloha,
Many train songs are full of hokum (hype) & instrumental show-offs. Norman Blake's "Crossing # 9" is full of soul & it tells a simpler story about a small, rural Southern town from a long ago time when steam engines ruled the land - without any hokum. https://youtu.be/WFB1Lzw1SZE And, of course, Norman Blake's classic, "Slow Train Through Georgia." https://youtu.be/V-6alHEC12I alohachris Last edited by alohachris; 03-27-2017 at 05:42 PM. |

I guess from their entire catalog I'd go with "Drops of Jupiter".

Jimi's "Hear My Train A-Comin"
Aloha,
In electric circles, my favorite all-time train song is "Hear My Train A-Comin" on Jimi Hendrix's Rainbow Bridge album. It's the most intense, creative & revealing (about Jimi's fragility) train song of all. It sounds like a train is rumbling through your living room on those two solo breaks. Many versions are out there. But Check that Rainbow Bridge album version out (I can't find it now). It is astonishing! alohachris Last edited by alohachris; 03-27-2017 at 09:48 PM. |
