Do not attempt to play your guitar while floating in a pool, swimming in the ocean or engaged in any other type of water sport...

Yeah!!!!!! That will do the trick!

Never restring your guitar without putting a towel or cloth on the top to protect it from scratches and dents.

Don't use the old 'Humidipaks' made by 'Planet Waves'. They will burst open and ruin your guitar!

Be reasonably careful.

Play the darned thing.

Expect to get the odd ding in it if you are going to give it a good life. Honour the trees that were sacrificed to create the instrument by creating music, not by obsessing over its condition.

Never take the guitar out of the case.

Never play it.

Never take the guitar our a humidity and temperature control rolled vault.

Never own the guitar in the first place.

Never leave your electric guitar unattended where your three year old can turn the volume knob around and around without you knowing until it doesn't go around and around anymore.

Never do anything to your guitar that's going to hurt it's resale value... Because as a member of AG Forum you will be gas-ed to sell it eventually for another.

On a serious note, never put vinyl anywhere near a nitro finished guitar (Martin etc), Bad things will happen.
