Post Good European luthiers

Hi Guys and Luthiers,

Could point me toward good european luthiers that can both do fan fret guitars an armrest/bevel and a soundport for a custom acoustic guitar project that I have in mind.

Thanks a lot for your help and input.

Edit : added the soundport it s a must I can t do without.

From my own experience I recommend Alexander Voss, a very talented young german luthier, who built for example my Miss Maple, a really extraordinary and in every way beautiful guitar. Another really good guy is Jakob Poljakoff, but I'm not quite sure, if is also building fanned fret guitars...
In the north of Europe you could ask Olav Loef, who is also building really beautiful fanned frets with superb craftsmanship.

As of later this year Tom Sands, Ervin Somogyi's current apprentice, will be based here in the UK.

He will be making me a fan fret later this year, and can certainly handle a bevel or armrest.

Cheers,
David

You should get in touch with Śliwa Guitars from Poland. He builds astonishing instruments of various sizes and wood combo. FG is an option.

Let's see, Rory Dowling of TARAN GUITARS is making incredible instruments these days. Ted Astrand has gotten a lot of attention recently for his impeccable builds. I would also second Alexander Voss in Germany. I have two guitars from him, just amazing instruments.

You might look through the exhibitors list from the 'Holy Grail Guitar Show' that takes place in Europe.

Rory Dowling is reputed to an up and rising luthier building along the lines of stefan sobell and has a cheaper no option model as well.

a little bit offtopic... are you the guy, Alexander built the "twins" some months ago? I saw them in his workshop and enjoyed the idea and the impressions of the two guitars..

Depending on your goal here's the cream of the crop imo

Blazer and Henkes in Germany
Per Marklund in Sweden

Both of these builders are Martin/Gibson inspired and period correct which doesn't sound like the ticket here.

Ted Astrand in Sweden for a more modern tone and possibly this project.

I'd stack these three up against anyone out there in the world.

There are very many fine luthiers in the Uk, and many in other parts of the EU.
I would have suggested Richard Osborne, Nick Benjamin, Sobell, Bown, Vanden, Forster, Dave King, Atkin, Northworthy etc.

However the OP has stated very specific design aspects, and so I saw little point in mentioning these names.

I suggest that he does his own research - start with British Luthiers, and widens his net country by country until he finds someone that builds the kind of thing that he seeks.

Two other names come to my mind
Benoit Meulle Stef in Brussels builds a large range of specials guitars, includinf fanned-fret 8 strings guitars
http://www.bmsguitars.com/page/root/...teventail.html

Thomas Fejoz a very reputable luthier in southern France has builds several fanned-fret guitars and especially baritone
