Default Cheap jazzbox alert...

https://www.amazon.com/Godin-5th-Ave...ds=godin+cw+ii

Got mine from a similar Amazon Christmas Day stealth sale a few years ago - has that early-50s ES-175 visual/tonal vibe but more lively like a Brooklyn Gretsch, sounds fabulous with flatwound 13's; I understand Tony Bennett's guitarist is using one of these - and I'd tend to think that both of them know a little something about tone...

Good point. The price is low for such a professional instrument.

Not a bad deal at all - FWIW Epiphone targeted them directly at the CW II (satin lacquer finish, colors, appointments, original selling price) in case you didn't notice - and the one I played a few weeks ago at GC (one of the infamous $439 blondes) felt/handled like a mid-60's ES-175, including the period-correct thin neck (which I love); truth be told, my first "good" guitar of any kind was a '64 Gretsch Double Annie (which I still own), and I prefer the light weight (a hair over five pounds versus 7+/- for the 175) and livelier tone afforded by the thinner body woods (about half the thickness of the 175) and P-90's of the CW II - very reminiscent of my Gretsch in many respects...

Price is back up to $999 on Amazon, BTW...

Can't say enough good about the Kingpins. I have a single pickup, non-cutaway model, and while I own "better" guitars, that one gets played as much as any of 'em.

If you're patient, I've seen the 2 pickup model for even less than in that link...but even that price is a steal for an instrument that's professional grade in every sense--great sound, well made...even has a bolt on neck! Close as you can get to a "worry free" jazzbox.

As for the Epi 175, it's one of the very few 175 copies I've ever played that actually sounds like a 175 (looking at you Eastman)

Great value...very thin neck profile, too thin for me, otherwise I'd have one in a heartbeat.

I've played that Epi 175 in the Atlanta GA. It's been there forever and is pretty shop worn. Lots of marks, dings, etc. I passed on it at a slightly higher price. It if were the natural finish, it wouldn't be as noticeable. Wasn't bad sounding and not overly heavy. Went with a Loar instead though.

If you missed out on the GC ES-175 sales and you still have a few bucks left over from your Christmas bonus, come and get your new guitar...
