Yamaha LL6
I have one of these on order; I wanted something relatively inexpensive to take on trips/loan out and the spec on this attracted me:
Englemann spruce top Rosewood back and sides (laminate I believe although there's some confusion about the back; is it/isn't it solid.) Ebony bridge and 'board and three-ply mahogany/rosewood/mahogany neck. I also like the subtle re-working of the regular dread style; more soft and rounded in the bouts and a bit smaller overall. Oh, and £259UK including a Cordura semi-hard case seems like a good price. I read some glowing reviews and am looking forward to my first Yamaha for 40 years! Anyone else have this model? Comments? I have a Yamaha LJ6, good construction, good tone. The pickguard is ugly, it's coming off soon. Other than that it's a good value for the money.

I had a good play on an LL6 a couple of months ago. Very nice indeed. Good finishing and most importantly, a very nice tone. Nice , warm bass, with sparkly highs. I prefer a slightly wider nut, or I'd have got it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have the LJ with electronics and cutaway.
Untouchable for anything under (AT LEAST) a thousand dollars (Canadian). You'll love your LL. |

Whoops, forgot about the 16 series...THOSE are the best guitars under $1000, although the 6 series comes close.
