I'm assuming you mean a repair tech? If not, I don't know of any builders in the Dayton area - TKoehler lives in Dayton, I'll PM him and bring this to his attention.

I'll second Mark Kaiser. The best around, no doubt.

I wish I could refer someone, but Larry @ Guitars Etc. sends his repair work out...he might even sent it all to Kaiser...sounds like he's your man...I think I'm kinda impressed the Gem City is so well repped here...

Mark is very good. But the most "anal" guy I ever met for guitar set-up is Dennis Rotterman (out by the new Costco) 937-684-5153. He's done the last 4 or 5 of my guitars and I couldn't be happier. I used Mark for the previous 15 years though and he is very good. I think he's amazing at rebuilding and repairing guitars, but I like Dennis's set-ups better.

If you're willing to travel to Columbus, I highly recommend Kraig Phillips. Dave Bush is also excellent. Kraig does more building.

Not sure if you are referring to the same Rotterman who was employed at Carlin Guitars? If so, Carlin closed about 9 months ago and know that at least some of the instructors ended up at Hauer. Not sure about Mr. Rotterman whereabouts.

And.....another vote chiming in for Mark Kaiser.

I've been dealing with him for at least 25 years, if not more.

He's the best in my book.

Not really sure if it's the same guy or not. Never went to Carlin guitars that I know of. Mark did all my setups since I moved to Ohio from CA 17 years ago. I tried Dennis when Mark was on vacation, they're both friends too. Dennis did a great job, he's a player too and I have been going to him ever since. Fun guy to talk with too. He asked me questions about my playing and preferences that nobody has asked before, and explained how he'd address them. He can assess a guitar pretty quickly and explains what the "plan" is going to be to get the set-up I want. So far, he's been able to achieve what I need for less than what we talked about and I've been really happy with the results. I've had a couple of set-ups with Mark, especially electric guitars, and acoustic pick ups installations that needed to be brought back and made right. Overall Mark is great, he really is, but Dennis is absolutely anal about guitar setup, his interest and attention to detail is what's been making me come back again and again. If I had any wood related repair or finish repair I'd wouldn't even think of anybody but Mark, but the playability of Dennis's setups, at least for my style, is always spot on.
