I'm annoyed when people 'verb' nouns. (use nouns as verbs)
Example: My brother gifted me this guitar.
Facebook verbed the noun, 'friend', and by doing so used manipulative guilt to make billions of dollars.

Insure/ensure.
Insure is the business, as in paying premiums to insure something.
Ensure is to make something certain.
Using insure when ensure is correct is extremely common, even in professional publications and advertising.

Your/you're. GRRRR!

Disoriented/disorientated. GRRR!

Putting a ding in my new Martin Authentic. GRRRR!

In heavy traffic waiting behind other cars at a red light to turn left.
The light turns green but the person in the front pulls up only a couple feet; when the light turns red only THAT car can go.
If they had pulled up all the way a few cars could have made that same light. GRRRR!

Drivers on cellphones!
They should all have their skin peeled off, be covered in salt, and left to the vultures in the desert sun. GRRR!

Parents of my guitar students with a new BMW and a new Mercedes in the driveway who "can't afford" more than $50 for their kid's guitar. GRRRR!

Parents who let their kids run around and be loud brats in nice restaurants.

Pronouncing wash with an R.

Okay I gotta stop; I'm enjoying this too much.
Now you kids get off my lawn.

The main thing is - did you communicate what you wanted? Usually we can get by with poor grammar, spelling or incorrect word usage and no one is particularly bothered. But there are times once in a while when it is important. Here's one on punctuation that illustrates:

A group of people were asked to punctuate this: woman without her man is an animal

Men did it this way: "Woman without her man is an animal." But the women saw it differently: "Woman! Without her, man is an animal." True story.
You made me go back and look, just to see if I had responded to you with a quote, it appears I did not, but to answer you, my post was never meant to point a finger at you. It does happen to all of us, some more than others, I just never felt compelled to point it out to others, kind of like the saying, "people that live in a glass house should not throw rocks". Unless the bad spelling, or grammar turns the subject into something that confuses me, then I may ask what they meant. Even I with my bad spelling, and all have, notice many times the bad spelling, and grammar from people I thought much better educated than myself. Heck I have even misspelled something when I was trying to correct my bad spelling, making it worse then before, now that upsets me.

Sums up what? I actually had a great day and it's amusing reading the posts. Loved getting a few things off my chest, even if they are trivial.

I suddenly got the urge to "go play my guitar." Not sure why that suddenly popped in my head.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

I get so annoyed when people don't correct their mistakes.

I haven't quit, but I don't come here as often as I used to. Got tired of the sparring, grandstanding and dissing what's not YOUR perfect guitar. THOSE are the things that annoy me. Dang, y'all, just be nice.

Peace,

Ariella

Good point. I guess it's not. I can slide past typos and "neo-speak" since language has never been something that's static (try reading Chaucer, for instance, or even a 1611 King James without modernization), and is constantly changing, especially slang.

Meanness, OTOH, we already have more than enough of.

... people who, instead of playing their guitar, post "Go play your guitar".

Without our eyeballs how are the advertisers here and the owner of AGF to make any money?
