I'm from Staten Island, AKA "Colon of the Earth"...
 We're our own sovereign nation: own customs, own language, own cuisine, own TV/radio stations, own "government" (as any visitor - and/or regular viewer of Mob Wives - can attest  ) - and never to be confused or associated with Brooklyn or North/Central Jersey, except at your own peril...  Our old greeting sign at the Verrazano Bridge toll plaza used to say, "Welcome to Staten Island - New Jersey, 7 miles" ...  Now it just says, "Hey you - get outta here"...
