Default Winston Churchill And ALIENS??

As Jed Clampett used to say: "Well, I'll be dogged!"

Not like he held any startling views on the subject. Pretty mainstream.

Churchill was a unique man. His abilities are manifold, and his capability to command and make major decisions (not always correct in hindsight) was remarkable.

I would question why we are even remotely surprised that he turned his fertile and logical mind to the possibility of life elsewhere.
Simply put: if you cannot discount something, then it may be possible.

Churchill was born in 1874, and died in 1965. Imagine the changes and conflicts that he saw.
Ho observed the Cuban civil war in 1895, India in 1896, the Mohmand campaign in 1897/8, the Sudan in 1898, the second Boer war in 1899, western front 1915/6.

Politically he was active from 1902 until 1955, with so many cabinet posts, as well as serving as post war Prime minister not forgetting that he got us though WW2.

They guy had been aroud a bit. He'd observed a lot, changed the world, and knew how the impossible could be achieved.

How could anyone doubt him anything?

Didn't read the article, but listened to a report covering it on NPR. The most interesting thing for me is that he was writing on this stuff in the midst of WWII when he was undoubtedly overwhelmed. Intellectual considerations like this were probably an outlet for him.

Cool stuff.

SM, Last year I went through William Manchester's voluminous three part trilogy on Churchill titled "The Last Lion." Actually the final volume "Defender Of The Realm, 1940-1965" had to be finished by another author (Paul Reid) because Manchester died before he could finish it. But man what a read on Churchill. I literally couldn't wait to sit down at night to get back into it. As you so aptly stated, the man knew how the impossible could be achieved. Indeed. I always thought that Manchester's crown jewel was his biography of McArthur, but I think I have to put "The Last Lion" at the top of the list now. I passed the books on to my son and he is now enjoying them.
