Default How long would you spend on this song?

There is a super easy lesson of a 3 chord Amazing Grace by Lisa McCormick on YouTube.

I have been playing about 3 years. I figured out the melody line and have it down pretty well after about an hour. The c to g transition in the strum is throwing me a bit of a curveball but not bad.

My question is how long would you guys take to get to where you are playing this song real well?

I know the obvious answer is 'as long as it takes'. But I am just not getting it as quickly as I think I should.

You're never going to learn something fast. Anything worth learning takes time. If you push it too much all you will learn is how to make mistakes faster. Go slow. If you get bored with it, switch to something else for ten minutes, then go back.

Instantly. It really is all relative to where each person is at. Just think about how you are coming along, not what others can do.

The answer is "as long as you feel like".
You have to love the song (or that arrangement of it) enough to persevere until you've got it, even if it's months. If there comes a point at which you stop loving it, before you've finished it - well clearly you don't love it enough.

If you get bored or frustrated with it - can't find a way through particular technical difficulties - then my suggestion would be: pick another song.
Or - if you really love the song - work out alternatives for the parts that are causing you problems.

Amazing Grace is a pretty simple song, after all, and there must be 1000s of ways of playing it. A C-to-G chord transition should be dead easy for someone who's been playing 3 years. If you can't manage the specific one in this arrangement; find an easier way! The song is the thing.
