My old friend....
In 1988 they rolled the first Stairmaster into the health club I was working at and a lifelong "friendship" was struck. Very quickly I decided to make an attempt at doing a "marathon" 26.2 miles on it and completed quite a few once I realized how important electrolyte replacement was!
I don't put myself through that any longer, but have done quite a few half marathons over the last 15 years. I'm down about 10% speed-wise since my late 20's (can still do an 8.5 mile hour!!), but when I think of all the hours and "vertical miles" it's kind of crazy. This morning while doing a 10k my old friend started making a little noise, so I pulled it apart and did a clean and lube job and installed some new parts I had stockpiled and got it "purring" again. I just thought it was time to pay homage to one of my favorite inanimate objects. I can't imagine what life would have been like without it! I brought it home from the studio a few years back!

Nice story, thanks for posting! In contrast, I guess my favorite (other than guitars) is my reclining chair!

I can tell you that none of my clients missed it for a second when I brought it home. "That's too hard" was the typical comment.
