True!

It's one of those things that are so small you really can't see what was one unless you hold it yourself, view it through the magnifying glass or see it on the computer.

Hey, maybe we can draft attendees who know how to use computer power points to show off the good and then test those who attended the class.

I'd be up for that. Who knows? Maybe I'll have something to practice on at that point?

Dru - thank you for your kind words. I'm sure Todd's right (thanks Todd) about how gorgeous my new McKnight will sound. I read many threads before I ordered my McKnight and all those people have to be right about one of Tim and Mary's creations.

Thanks Woody for your words of encouragement.

This is a bittersweet time. I think this is the last group of pictures I'll get until Mary and Tim send the final set. The 47 photos Mary sent today brings the grand total up to 824 photos - and that's only of the photos of the build. Tim and Mary sent me a ton when I was deciding on what woods to use and my options for purfling and binding.

But now it's time to give the microphone back to Mary, our hostess with the mostess ...

These are marked so you know where they fit best (BK editorial - Great idea! Thanks!)

Tools of the trade:

Measuring the nut for string slots:

Tim for measuring the action, but first it is important to call BK (BK editorial - Tim did call asking me for what my preference was for the action - impressive as always)

Listen... "There is a House in New Orleans..." Can you hear this?

This, BK, if your McKnight Guitar! (BK editorial - Thank you Mary & Tim)

It's all clean and spiffy doo just for you.

Minimal changes - we want the saddle and nut to match the pins so we will soak them in tea:

AHA. Much closer than the stark white was!

The aged looks is more attractive with the gold fret wire:

Thanks Mary for your running commentary - informative (and funny) as always.

Tim's ToneRite is now injecting more life into my guitar as we speak. It will stay on for three days. I believe Tim and Mary will then take final photos and then the guitar will be on its way.

That's it for this time. Thanks for following this thread.

Take care,
BK

Excellent photos. I've never seen any luthier in action so these pics are a big treat. I can only imagine the customers sense of participation throughout the entire process.

Cheap, deep steeped. I've tasted the tea I make for staining. Nasty stuff. Personally, I prefer peppermint tea or green tea for myself, but the guitar never asked for a taste.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. The Lord directed us to a business to make guitars. We could never have made it through without HIM.

Heard stories about putting the bone nut and saddle in tea for aged look, albeit with skeptism!
Now I know it really works!

Yes, it works quite well. Just use two bags of Earl Gray or similar dark tea, let the bags steep for 5 minutes in a cup of boiling water, then drop the nut and saddle in there for a few minutes. The longer you leave it in the darker the stain will be. Ivory doesn't take a stain as well as bone does so it takes longer. I left these in for about 30 minutes. Bone usually takes 2 - 5 minutes to achieve similar results.

Tim, in the pictures above that show you with the ruler laying horizontal across the frets and feeler gauges underneath the ruler, what exactly are you measuring there?
A wild guess here, gulp, but were you figuring fret height so you could use those gauges plus another fixed amount to figure nut string height?
Thanks,
Bob

ps I was going to refer to the pictures' names, but, uh, we might never have connected on that.
