Local shop. Saw those online last night! Let's just say its the prettiest maple I've owned. Top was super clear. The fit and finish was the best I've seen come out of Taylor. I felt like it was a BTO road show quality. The plugged in sound was impressive.

Nice to see natural maple again! Taylor really botched the new 600 series by trying to make maple look like rosewood. I couldn't live with my 618e because of it, they just made it too dark. Plus they put rosewood binding on, which made it completely invisible on the toned back and sides.

Yeah it just sucked me in visually. My first Taylor was a '97 615 with huge quilting Then had a 410 LOTF curly quilted and a 314ce flame ltd - all gone now. This back is like a rippled water. Also has anyone seen these deluxe cases? It appears to be on par with my trusty pink poodle case. Very nice!

Default Envious

I saw two examples of this pretty thing on Saturday. You can choose a curly or quilted finish. Not that my preference matters since I have a 214 in rosewood. I can't justify owning two 214s or trading just for the appearance sake. I did play one and it sounded great. I don't mind that this is a laminate guitar because I can't argue with its clean sound and well engineered neck, so ergonomic to me.

Amen. I have no idea why Taylor's staining the 600 series but it's just plain wrong.

Didn't get your pm. Will get some photos together as soon as finances are aligned and it's home! At least a week. Exciting though. I think clean sound and ergonomic are correct. Unplugged it was decent. Playability and low setup were outstanding.

Just informing you that I have the same model. Mine was part of the Taylor Summer NAMM display. Great guitars / excellent value. Looks, plays and sounds just fantastic!

Will be excited too hear more about yours. Keep us informed please.

Oh no, I disagree. I love that stain. Stunning.

If I ever see a 656ce in the wild....

I am purposefully avoiding looking for one. It might be my wallet's kryptonite.

Living two hundred miles from the nearest Taylor Dealer I haven't yet seen or played one in person. However, I love my Natural Taylor 600ce Special, and having worked with wood for my entire life I love the look of Maple. So I'm unable to comprehend the confusion of ideas that would lead someone to stain or paint a Maple guitar. But that's just the geezer in me.
