I approve of your choice of woods, as well as of beverages bet you're going to be happy with this one. Congratulations!

Thanks all! I'm pretty excited about what this is going to sound like. As to the look, I asked Jason for not-so-reddish rosette and preferred blue. He really delivered what I had envisioned.

I look at that astonishing guitar, being built by a true master, and find myself thinking, "What's with that crappy squared-off heel?" and realize I'm a jerk. But it is an odd visual non-sequitur given the shape of the headstock rear lamination. On the other hand, I do think that the truly great guitars are not formulaic and over-simple, but offer a few quirks and surprises instead. It has got to be wonderful to see your guitar come together over time.

I'm definitely savoring the pictures he's sending me. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I think the angle of the pic make it look blocky(is that even a word?), but it's not rectangular all the way up. It tapers as you can see from the pic (not mine). I think this is prevalent among the Somogyi students. I had Beauregard guitar and is quite similar. I PERSONALLY prefer this style.

Here is a close up of my Kostal heel cap. You can see that it is beautifully carved with a curve that is both subtle and elegant. It actually has the same lines as the cutaway and also the headstock. Another thing I absolutely love about it is that it sits flush to the back of the guitar. Since it is ebony, it blends seemlessly into the binding making it all look like one piece. All these little details can't be seen from far away. All these little details make it truly a masterfully crafted and well thought out piece of art! And then you play it and that's a whole other story!

I've played loads of Kostals; the heel is very comfortable. Indeed, I prefer the way it meets the side on the cutaway, i.e. without a step - I find a step distracting on those guitars that have it.

Cheers,
Steve

Congrats on the Kostal - keep the photos coming! I've got a German/MadRose on order in an OM so will be watching this closely.
