My trio played a 1/2 hour set at a festival last night and the first guy I met coming off the stage said, "Well, that didn't suck at all." Still not sure if that was a compliment or a criticism...

I don't know about in Halifax, but where I come from that's a big compliment.

I remember when, shortly after arriving in the States I played my first open mic in Massachusetts (can't remember which town, it was 20 years ago) and the compere said "that was awesome" . I had never heard anybody use the term "awesome" before, and was hugely gratified. It didn't take long for me to realize that in the US "awesome" had long since become devalued to the point where it didn't really mean anything at all.

Huh, my first US gig was in Mass. too - a little club in Concord.

I guy who lived around there asked me what guitar I played ...a d35. Ok I'll get you one - what strings do you like? D'add Ej17s - OK Ill put them on for you. Met you there.

I asked - is the level really good ? He said "You'll be ok, after all you won't be the first Brit to die in Concord!

Huh?

They really seemed to like me - asked me to set up bookings - sadly I was only there for a fortnight.
