Bass trap question
I Will be building some corner bass traps this week and would like to get an opinion on the size. If I am filling corners with a triangle stack (floor to ceiling) would a 16 inch face be sufficient, assuming the rest of the room is properly treated. All of the diy vids I viewed make them with a 24 inch face.
I will be recording acoustic guitar and voice, with some other stringed instruments over dubbed, nothing amplified. Any bass tracks will go direct.

Personally considering the cost of the guitars, the recording equipment and the importance of room reflection treatment,
I would just buy a nice finished product. For example:https://www.atsacoustics.com/corner-bass-trap-b.html P.S. I bought a portable room air purifier and ran it for a couple of week straight the day after I installed my rockwool wall and ceiling room panels (fiberglass would be even worse to breathe).

I redid the math and the leg of the triangle facing out will be just a bit over 22.6 inches.

The section that talks about some corner bass traps and some absorption panels at the first reflection points, is a great place for the home recordist to start.

The OP is talking about sound absorption, not sound proofing. They are two different things.

Totally different. I did do some work with the walls and ceilings for sound proffing (as much as possible) but now I'm on to getting the equipment set up and some basic room treatment, including the corner basetraps, absorption at the first reflection points and some diffusion on the back wall.

In the absence of more concrete answers, I'd suggest that bigger is better if you have the space.

the thing with low frequencies is that they are big waves...so you need maximum surface area to deal with them properly.
When I built my first studio we did all the room tuning ourselves & built our own absorption & diffusion gadgets. If you have decent carpentry skills it's really not hard and you can get everything done for about 1/3rd the cost of pre-fab stuff. A good sample of Pink Noise and an RTA are life savers for gut checking what you're doing (and what needs to be done). If you can get an RTA that also does RT60 Time it will make life that much easier.

As big/thick as you've got room for - but anything is better than nothing, specially in corners.
