Tenor Guitar tuned EADG
Hi all.
(I couldn't find relavent tenor guitar thread to piggyback this question on.) Can a tenor guitar be tuned EADG like the 4 lower strings of a guitar? The scale length is close to an acoustic guitar. My rationale is I am considering adding the 3 note rhythm chords/triads to the ukulele groups jams. Rhythm chords like Freddie Green used. I have moved on to ukuleles and settled on playing the baritone ukulele which is tuned like the 4 treble strings of a guitar, DGBE. I don't want to play bass in this context. Since moving to ukulele i love playing chords. I don't want to bring a guitar because it may be too loud and to be honest, 4 strings is magic for me, whether its bass guitar or ukulele or was mandolin. Not having the E and A strings on the baritone ukulele makes chord note choices and shape decisions real easy. I love the interaction of chord tones and the moving voices. Another option is a guitarlele, but I'm in the 6 string territory again. Thanks, Ed T. |

Yes, you can do this.
I started out a bass player and my first guitar was a tenor tuned this way. It worked out well enough but eventually I felt limited and started the long process of properly learning 6-string guitar. I feel that tenor guitars should be a lot more popular considering how many people play four string instruments.
