Default My LS16ARE is a keeper

I had a Yammie A3M a year or so ago, but I was not comfortable with the dreadnaught shape, so I got my Taylor 416s (standard, then a 2016 LTD), which fit my body much better. However, I decided I need a guitar that could take a beating if called on to do so, so I got a used LS16R ARE, and I'm very pleased. Added Elixir PB Nano lights, which was a big improvement, changed the pickguard to Taylor's clear removable one, added a bone saddle, and installed a John Pearse arm rest. The arm rest in particular was a large improvement in clarity, dynamics and sustain. I now understand why violin chin rests are designed as they are to avoid contact with the top.
The result is a good looking, well made, easy to play guitar with exceptional sound qualities. Still not quite up to my Cedar/Walnut 416CE LTD, but surprisingly close given the 3x price difference.
This L series guitar made a believer out of me. Ridiculously high value for the $.

Jonbee it sounds like you got a keeper in that Yamaha. If I am not mistaken I think they revamped the L series after I sold my LS6.

Matte finish? That's interesting, and they don't feature in my 2016 Yamaha catalogue. Your LL6 reminds me of my old one (pre A.R.E.), which I owned at the same time as an LL26, bought from Dolphin Music. There honestly wasn't a whole lot of tonal difference between them, allowing for the fact the 26 didn't stay long enough to open up, and the considerable difference in cost. The 6 are really superb instruments; Yamaha really know how to use laminates to best advantage.
I hope this thread might encourage more people to hunt out the 'L' series; they don't seem to be too common in the US-probably partly due to Yamaha not advertising them.

I have an LS-16 R/W A.R.E., 2015 model. When we have other guitarists over, we've done blindfolded tests with the LS vs. Martin, vs. Breedlove, vs. Bedell.
People are amazed at the tone and ease of play of the Yamaha. Price-wise, many choose it's sound over the Martin for quality.
I am amazed how well mine sounds through a Fender SFX amplifier, it's system really compliments the pristine sound of the SFX. And, I bought this as a 'beater', but it's finish and look are so nice, I baby it.
Considering how many hours it gets played, it's surely the best value I've found in an acoustic. Yamaha has an excellent formula for building.

Default Yamaha L Series Club II

Since I am interested in N LS-16 ARE myself I am surprised to hear people have a prob distinguish with a Martin since I thought the tone differed quite a lot. What Martin model could be similar to an LS-16?

I have tried LS-16 in both rosewood and mahogany but felt in both cases the tone was very bright

Had my LS16 stored for a few months. Go it back yesterday and rekindled my love affair. Great guitar.

One of my students just bought an LS16 this week, I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it on Saturday. I've just put my own LS16m in CGCGCD tuning, planning to keep it that for a while, it really suits that lower tuning.

I picked up an LL16D off of CL today with a hard case. It still has the protective plastic on the pick guard.

Sure. It was $600.00 with the hard shell case.

I honestly stress over great deals like this. Half of me worries something is wrong with it and the other half worries that somewhere a guitarist got their baby stolen.

Then I put my nose over the sound hole, take a big wiff, and it all goes away.
