Default Effects -

I just happened upon a product review - Korg PX4A. While not complete it seems to be quite nifty in reproducting body effects like resonators, etc.. Heck and pretty darned cheap. Any thoughts?

Pros: The size (fits in the guitar case storage compartment), price, tones are OK, the rhythm tracks along with some of the other functions are neat

Cons: user interface could be better, some of the effects are cheesy.

I have one. It is quiet and the effects are OK. I have used it mostly for chorus and some of the more realistic presets. It operates pretty well to be small and navigating the functions is good but not great.

I had bought it to replace some of what is lost with piezo wile playing amplifed. I found the best way to get the most from a pickup is a quality preamp and amplification. This put the PX4a on the back burner for a while. I have since started working on ways to use the PX4a.

I really don't need all the functions and wish someone would produce something that size with just some high quality basics needed to color tone for performing and do some recording of ideas; downloadable with settings displayed like digital photography. The only controls I have on such a box would be a tone and volume analog controls, and a D-pad with enter and back.

Well until then the PX4a is fine and if nothing else it is fun to play with.

Looks similar (in function) to the Zoom A2.

I demoed the Zoom some but had some trouble navigating through the settings; its controls weren't very intuitive for me, but I have liked the sounds from Zoom products I tried in the past. My local shop has a used one and will likely tinker with it. If I do, I'll post my findings. BTW the Korg is much smaller; about the size of the earler PDAs.
