The Shure PGA31 is about the best wired I have used. None of them are that good really in the wired range....which this one is. But its reliable, comfortable and does the job. They sound best through a reverb, like, without one, they sound kind of like a public service announcement PA thing.
The Line 6 XD55HS wireless is professional. HUGE difference. In quality and price! The Sennheiser G3 is good too, but even more money. The AUDIX system coming in at close to 1K CDN is best of all of these. The only wired one is the Shure, and its hella lot cheaper. D. |

Crown 311A, pricy but the best. I've been using them for the past past 5 or 6 years.

Have you tried this DPA? ... I've had mine over a year and can't imagine anything could sound more natural. It's also smaller, and less noticeable than the Crown. The DPA is designed to sound best when positioned at the corner of the mouth when smiling, not right in front of the lips ... which obscures an important part of the face of a performer. http://www.dpamicrophones.com/microp...set-microphone OP said funds are limited so the Crown and the DPA are not likely the choice. I just had to challenge your statement that "Crown is the best". FWIW, the DPAs are around twice the price of the Crown, not that $$$ is always directly proportional to quality. Just saying. I asked similarly in this thread:
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=487808 Not sure of your use, but I was looking for something that can be plugged into a battery-operated amp with no phantom power. Very few choices out there that don't require a 'belt pack' to supply the condenser mic. That Crown is $450, so the DPA is close to $900? This AT mic @ $80 was the only one I found: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...70420000000000

I bought the Shure WH20XLR a few years back. I haven't used it a great deal to be honest but I've always found it to be up to the job. Not an SM58 but certainly worth looking at. And it's a lot cheaper than some of the above, so if you are on a budget then take a look.
It's comfortable to use especially if you wear glasses. There's a small market for these type of mics so you don't have as much choice as you would when looking at a hand held mic. I bought mine for the occasional busk with a battery operated Roland Cube. Really didn't fancy using my KMS 105 in the street....! |

Countryman E6 or H6 would be on my short list, along with the aforementioned DPA and Crown models. I haven't personally used the Countryman Isomax, but it should at least be on your radar, since it's cardioid (many headset mics are omnidirectional, making for a nightmare feedback scenario).

The Shure WH20XLR looks interesting, looks like there are models with the mini connector, so make sure you get the right one if you don't have a belt pack.
The Countryman has the mini connector, beltpack needed.

The Countryman E6 is the benchmark. The Microphone Madness knockoffs sound just as good. You can pay a little extra and get a stainless steel cable one that is warranted for two years. That’s my recommendation:
