Froome tests positive
Another Tour de France winner bites the dust. Chris Froome recently tested positive for the banned drug Salbutamol, registering twice the allowed amount. Riders with "asthma" are given some leeway but his test would have meant he took 32 puffs before the ride during the 2017 Vuelta.
Unsurprisingly it came on a day when he recovered really well after a bad day in the mountains. Salbutamol is said to enhance and magnify increase in the transport of oxygen 3 to 5 times when used in combination with EPO. Not a shock given this rider's incredible history, transforming from a guy without a contract or any notable results into one of history's best riders almost overnight in the 2011 Vuelta. |

You're right... it's not shocking, but it is sad. Another one bites the dust...

I don't understand. They know they're going to get caught. Isn't worth it. If you have to dope up to compete, then don't compete.

Much easier to avoid detection when you can avoid the after race testing.

Sadly I've been thinking for the past couple of years that we haven't seen this kind of dominance since Motorola/Postal/Discovery and we all know how that worked out.

The riders that win a multiple grand tours are probably just the riders that have the most sophisticated doping regimen. If you read Tyler Hamilton’s book, you can see that Postal riders doped right up to a concentration limit of banned substances. Very disappointing in Froome’s case but not surprising. It will be interesting to see if he takes the denial approach or just fesses up.

If musicians were tested and "disqualified" for the presence of THC, we would probably have a lot of boring music. So we are finding out that the exciting events in sports are the result of doping? Hmmmmmm......

They all dope and almost never get caught. Froome has gotten very wealthy cheating.

Whew, for a second, upon reading the thread title, I thought it was as a misspelling of Froom, and that one of my favorite record producers was deathly ill. Instead, it's a thread about cheating on the Tour de France.
Don't they always cheat on the Tour de France? Just another sport missing sportsmen.

It's likely time we accepted the fact that elite athletes cheat. For those that don't cheat just make a separate league for them. This nonesense of having to spend millions policing doping and clean sport all the while the other side spends millions avoiding detection is stupid at best.
Knocking heros off pedestals they should have never been on is not good.

This does cast another shadow on Team Sky, who has a former member with far more accomplishments and trophies than Froome. |

Tonight the BBC has it's Sports Personality of the Year Award. It's sort of the UK Oscars for sport. It's been running for about 60 years and is considered to be quite prestigious. Froome is on the shortlist. I don't rates his chances after these revelations.
It will be interesting to see how the BBC will handle it. |
