Default Anyone See "August Rush"? Impressions?

This is out for rental now (maybe has been awhile-it was on our Blockbuster list). Just wondered if any of you saw this, and your impressions. Lots of music for sure--and that old Maple Gibby was a trip. I dunno...I enjoyed the music mostly (what is that guitar style called-where you tap hard on all the strings? Also, altered tunings for sure), but my biggest "gripe" (and I enjoyed the movie) was I found it totally implausible. I won't write any "spoilers." I've read positives on other music related websites--I don't know if this has been around the block already here--if so, sorry I neglected to "search" on it. In either case though, having just seen it, and it being a recent rental out, thought maybe some other opinions might be out there. Dunno.

All movies ask you to suspend disbelief to one degree or another, and accept the story line and the world the film presents. No matter how hard I tried, I could not suspend disbelief for this film. Implausible is accurate to me...and perhaps kind. There were two or three good lines in the dialogue, and the music was interesting--but not compelling to me in the way that "Once" was.

I won't offer any spoilers, either (although I had to go back and edit just now to keep from doing so in illustrating my vote for "implausible").

All of this is opinion, of course, but that's mine.

Just suspend your disbelief and it is a wonderful heartwarming movie. A movie does not to be plausible, just entertaining, and the music alone in this movie was fantastic. I give it a two thumbs up, would give it more but I only have two thumbs.

Saw it on a plane filght.
Implausable, yes, but I enjoyed it anyway.
Liked the idea of the power of music and of following one's heart.

Well you kind of know going in that it's a bit of a fairy tale BUT, I loved it anyhow. I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. The downtown night scenes with music floating to the rooftop was awesome. Anothe bit of cool info on the movie is that Robin Williams actually played the Harmonica on a couple of the songs. Can't remember exactly which one's but Moondance for sure. Really cool stuff. Loved the music and to my ear the music was very moving. In fact I'm learning several of the songs on the soundtrack cd right now. moondance, This Time, Raise it Up and some others. Two thumbs up for me!

I loved it....for me, movies don't have to be 'plausible' ...that is why they are movies and not real life...

If we only watch plausible movies, then 99% of them are unwatchable....

I thought Robin Williams' character was fantastic....he really is a versatile actor....

Saw it in the theater, found it unbelievable. Unbelievably warm, Unbelievable charming, profoundly predictable and even a little trite.

In other words, a wonderful escape to the way the world should be and perhaps could be if we tapped into all that we have at our disposal with our self limiting minds.

If you can think it, you can do it. Someone thought this up, I presume, therefore I believed it. Well for a couple of hours anyway.

Ten Thumbs up. I will buy it along with "Once" another story about music prevailing against all odds. I hope there is a trend.

Oh and while we are criticizing a movie that is a bit hard to grasp, how about all this other Movie zed drivel action movies with kung fu flying Chinese lady swordsperson and other insanity like "Matrix" .

Geeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz.

A good movie.

+1 on cheesy as heck.

I excitedly put it in the PS3 but after a few minutes, I couldn't stand watching it.

Different strokes.

I liked it. We were really excited about this movie for several months before it hit the theaters, so our expectations were probably a little too high. But we still enjoyed it enough to see it twice and then buy it on Blu Ray.

Same here, except I didn't see it on a plane. Heartwarming story and excellent music.

Since ALL movies are make-believe (even when based on real stories) I don't have to suspend anything. I just sit back and enjoy or not. I thought it was a great two hours of entertainment. I really like Robin Williams and I thought everyone in the movie did great.

The person really playing the guitar is a young lady named Kaki King.

She normally plays an Ovation Adamas and for electric she plays Fender,( Fender BTW now owns Ovation).

I walked in to the Sam Ash on the north side of Nashville a couple of weeks ago, and they guy running the guitar area had a guitar sitting on the work-bench (I think maybe he had just replaced the strings?) and hooked up to a PA, and was pounding out the song from August Rush.
