Default Mandolin electrocution hazard...

One for the books...

I’m sitting in the easy chair, re-stringing my mandolin. I thread one of the strings through the tuning peg, (they’re quite long) and all of a sudden there’s a “pop!” And sparks fly and my chairside light goes out.

The unwound end of the string had neatly gone into the power strip that we plug our phone-chargers and such into, and created a short.

No harm done, but rather scary!

Lack of electricity may have saved many a banjo player from a shocking early exit.

Pity.

Thank goodness for circuit breakers!

I was changing guitar strings one time and, when I took a string out of the envelope, it uncoiled suddenly and the ball hit me in the eyeball. It hurt like hell but I was grateful it wasn’t the sharp end.

If this keeps up pretty soon there will be OSHA warnings about Strings, with icons similar to the one on nail gun nails showing a guy on a ladder with the nail gun's business end, resting on the head of guy below him, with a red circle and bar ..

Picture the US Surgeon General advocating warning labels on string packages stating that electrocution can be damaging to your health.

Good heavens.
Warning label needed?
"Do not allow string end to enter mains electricity power socket".

Glad you're OK!
