Would love to see photos of your Taylor. That's the exact combination I had been interested in. Also could you PM or email me the price? Thanks [email protected]

Admittedly I bought my Taylor GC3 because it was the best I could afford but wanted either a 714ce or Martin 00-28VS.

What I was coming from was a stellar Esteve 9/CB classical that was simply elegant in every way but I wanted to be able to be more versatile with steel strings and didn't like working my way up the. Chords and strumming on it, the 2" neck was just a tad wide.

I've had the GC3 almost two weeks and every day it impresses me more, especially since I switched to Elixir Nano Light PB a couple of days ago. What is becoming very apparent is how balanced and comfortable this is to play, it's not too big and not too little for playing at home and the neck is just so balanced ( there I go using that word again) and I've been noticing how my thumb has been more comfortable and it just seems to work in a way I don't have to think about it as much as before. I'm very much a newbie to steel strings so every day is an event of learning but lately I've been wondering about a 12 fret GC cedar over mahogany or maybe rosewood custom instead of the 714ce but I can't find fault with the sound of the GC3 as it is with the PB strings.
As far as I know, and as far as my own experience allows, I don't think any adjustment is needed when switching between different brands of light gauge strings.

I used to own a GC3, by the way, and unwisely sold it - it was one of those guitars that I just wanted to pick up and play whenever I saw it, for a number of good reasons. If I were to buy another GC, it would surely be the 3.

I play fingerstyle more than anything, and I love my Taylor 814. Love the tone, a pleasure to play.

I don't think such generalities are true for a brand built in so many shapes and tonewoods. I absolutely love my Taylor 414 with 80/20 Elixers for strumming with a pick. I love it so much I can't stop strumming. I find my particular individual Taylor to to be pretty mellow and muted fingerstyle with bare fingers. Prefer PB's for that. Granted strumming up high on the neck is a bit less inspiring. I Like it OK for flatpicking but with light strings its takes more careful handling, can't just bang away at it. But regardless the style, the ability to do slides on those Elixers without a lot of squeak on a highly responsive guitar is pretty cool.

I think so! I love my GS8 for it's resonant tone and use it quite a bit for fingerstyle.

Practically all the Taloyrs that I tried in shops were excellent for fingerstyle as regards their setup, ease of play, comfortable neck shape etc.

However I found most of them somewhat lacking in tone - too bright for my taste and lacking in overtones.

The only Taylor model that I really really liked was a limited edition cedar top 12 fretter (I do not remember the exact model). They used to have it (maybe they still do) at 12th fret in Toronto. But it was above my budget really, so I had to pass on that one (regretfully)

John Cephas played Taylors. They actually made a John Cephas signature model. He was a long-time endorser and had the *14 and *15 models in his collection. His signature model was based on a 914 if I recall correctly.
