And here's something weird
I got a Facebook post from a friend that "(his name) was marked safe during The Explosion at Istanbul Ataturk Airport."
There is now a function with Facebook where you can check in that whatever awful thing has happened in your location, you can let others know that you're safe. This is really a wonderful innovation...about a really awful actuality.

Both my friends Ozlem and Orkan were in the airport when this happened, and thankfully they are fine. I went to school with them here in the States and they are both about as far away from terrorists as one could get.
Because of the work I've done with shipwreck excavations in Turkey, I have many friends that live there, at least twenty or thirty. I've spent a lot of time in Istanbul, Izmir, and Bodrum. You couldn't tell Bodrum from a Greek city. Istanbul is the one of the most secular, cosmopolitan cities I've ever been in. Are there extremists in Muslim countries? Sure. Are there extremists in the US successfully attacking? Yes. I'm closing this thread because they -always- head south.
