Default Cocobolo colors

Thanks, guys, for the positive comments. I'm really pleased with the way this build is turning out. It's interesting how the color of the cocobolo varies so much with the lighting. The first pics of the guitar under finish were taken under what looks like cool fluorescent lighting, which gave the cocobolo a brownish cast. Tom's pics were taken with a warmer light, bringing out the reds and giving an amazing glow to the wood. In neutral lighting, I guess the hue will be somewhere between the two. Well, I'll find out soon!

Default Polished, strung and ready to ship

Tom Doerr not only builds wonderful guitars, he also takes great photos. This past week, with the custom Solace finished, polished, all set up and nearly ready to ship, Tom took some time off from building to document a guitar that is a marvel to look at and a pleasure to play.

Here's a sampling of the photo collection Tom sent over.

Custom Solace (aka "Starry Night") Cedar/Cocobolo front and back.

Under finish, the resemblance to Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night" is even more evident.

Back and bass side, with shoulder bevel.

Just a glamour shot of a curvy guitar.

Now the details. Tom has a new and elegant style of truss rod cover.

Ebony backplate with gold Gotoh tuners.

Rosette and fretboard.

Shoulder bevel and bridge.

In the case, ready to ship.

And finally, just so we don't forget how much skill goes into building, here's a reminder of where this all started.

Great work, Tom--can't wait to play this beauty!
