Started around 1972 with my sister's beat up Epiphone. I hope I'm better now.

I started playing when i was 14 i think (April 2000) on my Dad's old Jedson strat copy, a week or two later i used my savings to get a Yamaha Pacifica 112. So that'll be 5 years this year. Been playing acoustic since november last year (apart from the occasional strums of my friends acoustics) and I've trying to learn some fingerstyle.

I did try to start playing when i was seven, but i gave up too easily after deciding it was impossible! Oh well...

I was 14 when I started. Forty years later, I rate myself as an intermediate (sigh). But, I sound a lot better than that in my dreams.

I was 43 when I started. I'm proud to say now I am a lot better player than I was when I was 6.

I was 16 When I seriously started...had a few lessons but my teacher would always yell if I missed a scale...so I bought chord books and played about 2 years...gave it up...took it up again at 19 and was in a band for about 4 years and stopped playing when joined the AF and then got married and quit for about 5 years...took it up again at 33 and haven't put it down since. I like to think I'm an okay player, unfortunately I'm more of a strumming than a picker. So when I go to the So-Cal get together tomorrow and hear all those great guitarist playing I know I'm gonna say...I suck...LOL

I was 14 when I started...40 years ago. I used to care how good I was, now I just play for myself, my grandkids and my dogs. They think I'm great. That's good enough for me.

Well, I was 19, and that was 31 years ago, and sometimes I still suck. I took a 15 year hiatus though, and since coming back to the guitar three years ago, my playing has much improved thanks to a fantastic fingetstyle instructor.

[QUOTE=kyguitarguy]And how do you rate your self now?

I was 20 (I'm 33 now). I'm not sure how good I am, so I will say "average". I'm sort of in that zone where people who don't play think I am very good, while people who know music well would probably say I am "solid". The odd thing is that I would probaly rate my playing lower now than I would a few years back even though I play better now. Playing well enough to earn a spot in a praise band with some truly good musicians has quickly tought me how much I don't know! 4 years ago I would probably rate myself a 7 on a scale going to 10, now, I would rate myself an 8, but the scale goes to 15.

I was 15 when I started, I am 19 now. I pretty much suck, basically because I want to play as well as SRVaughan or John Petrucci or Warren Haynes. At least, I have motivation. I expect to be all right in some years. I just wish I was better at writing my own material. Maybe I am too hard on myself, who knows. But I love playing guitar more than anything. Enjoy your day...

29 ish about three years ago. I really wish I'd picked it up us a teenager though, so much wasted time playing sport and chasing women.

It's something I'll stick with till the day I die though
