Default Sigma 000M-15S to the test

A few Drop G Swing Studies, on a very inexpensive, although delicious, 12 fretter all mahog triple 0.

That hog guitar really sings some sweet swing...of course without the touch, maybe not quite as much. Your recording and playing more than do justice to the guitar. I bet it sounds good played almost any style.

A couple of things.
First of all, I need to get with you and find out how to post multiple You Tube videos, I can't even get one video up on here.

Secondly, how dare you come on here with a Sigma and make the rest of us wish we could make our (expensive brand name goes here) sound like that.

Good job and nice sounding guitar!

That's just such amazingly beautiful playing!

Just so nice and enjoyable.

I prefer a mag-pickup in an acoustic and I think that helps a cheap guitar sound good - it sort of "levels the playing field" a bit by taking some of the acoustic out of acoustic if you know what I mean.

You need to copy *only* the letters and digits following the v=. Nothing else.
Then, click on the Youtube symbol button in the AGF reply window, and paste. Done.
If you want multiple videos, repeat.

Well, I like great (and expensive) guitars as anybody else (on the AGF, that is), but a few points to consider :
- I'm not comfortable carrying an expensive guitar everywhere, worrying about temperature, dings, theft, name it.
- I practice a sort of perverse reverse GAS, having a lot of pleasure finding an inexpensive guitar which is also good.
- The most important criteria for me are the look, and the ergonomics. I'm now old enough to know, but it took time (mistakes = money)
- I really believe there is no bad sounding instrument. Some are more challenging, sure, but after all, a no challenge life is quite boring.

Then, indeed, there is the way the guitar is recorded/amplified.
I'm a sucker for magnetic PU's, I have one on *all* my guitars, and I *always* use an amplifier when recording.
For two reasons : they are practical, and I look for an hybrid acoustic/electric/jazzy sort of sound.
So I mike the amp (I never go direct), and the guitar. Then it's quite easy to dial in a correct sound out of anything.

The sound on the videos is not the sound of the acoustic guitar, it's a combination of factors.

And, at the end, if the music is correct, any guitar will sound good.
I don't take special care about the tone. Even if I earn my life as a sound recordist and producer, when I record myself I don't pay too much attention to the technical aspect.
I'm much more concerned about the music itself. This is the core problem.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, and thanks to you all.

I always take time to listen to you - you've been working G tuning for years and it always sounds fresh. Great stuff.

Well, thanks a lot.
Now, I always think I write always the same tune : same chords, same progressions in different order, same voicings. A very narrow path.
Always the same, never the same. Which is probably the exact definition of a style, after all.

Everybody does the same stuff over and over, you are among the few who feel guilty about it. I too have a 000-15S with a magnetic pickup but you make yours really sound beautiful.

There are few benefits to getting older, among them is that guilt takes a backseat (along with competition, BTW)
So, no guilt at all, but just acknowledgement of the fact that, at the end of the day, style is about plowing a narrow groove. But plowing it deep.

First off, thanks for the help on the You Tube video thing.
Second off, I was really just teasing about the Sigma. I'm one of those who doesn't care about what guitar a person plays if they can play it well and obviously you can and very well.

Beautiful stuff Jean-Paul.

Not sure why, but that last one was definitely my favorite.
