"Let's Go" by The Cars. My band plays a new cover song every time we play a show and that's our new one.

Thanks Napman. I'll take your advice.

I've seen different variations of that little ditty.

How do you do you play it?

I just finished re-learning Little Martha. I play the original Duane Allman version but use Kottke's intro. The reason for re-learning it is that this is the only song I play in open d. I am too lazy to re-tune my guitar for only one song. Now I need to follow up with other open d stuff if I don't want to forget again.

I try to add a couple of songs to my repertoire each week. This week it's Dylan's "Forever Young" and the folk classic "Banks of the Ohio". Yeah, not a lot of chords going on there, but sometimes that's the challenge--to keep them interesting. Both lend themselves nicely to a Travis-style arrangement.

But I have to add my voice to the chorus of praise for Iron & Wine songs. They're wonderful, usually extremely simple to play but nonetheless evocative, compelling and memorably intimate. A song like "Love and Some Verses" is a single lick, repeated ad infinitum, but the off-kilter way it underscores the vocal melody keeps it from getting boring. "Naked as We Came" is just two picking patterns in dropped D, but elegant and heartfelt, a true love song. Worth checking out.

I just started "Goodnight Moon" by Shivaree from the Kill Bill Vol. 2 soundtrack. I plan to really try to figure it out tomorrow.

It's a group named Iron & Wine. Actually, it's not much of a group--just one guy named Sam Beam--but that's the name he records under. He multi-tracks his vocals and plays several instruments, so it does sound like a group.

Yeah, same here. I first heard it on Dawson's Creek. YEAH...**** gf got me hooked on Dawson's freaking Creek. Then I had to buy the album; great album. I haven't played in a little while but the last song I learned was "Amie". Not a hard song per se, but a good one.

Heck, none of his songs are hard really, but they are all very good. Goes to show you that you don't have to be a virtuoso to make it.

Same with Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Howie Day, and the list goes on. They seem to know enough to get the job done, but that's about it.

Fleshing out John Hiatt's "Buffalo River Home" right now. The last song that I really learned well was Supertramps "Give a Little Bit".

For those of you that like alernative/rock style songs, I just learned the acoustic version of Lithium, by Nirvana. Cool song to play and sing with, with alot of angst and emotion in it. Good practice on your bar chords too!
