Default AER Compact 60/3 vs Domino 2

Hi all, sorry for another versus thread. I was all set to buy a new Compact 60 but a used Domino 2 has just come up. I’ve not tried a Domino and wondered if anyone had experience of both?

I play solo pub gigs and also work with a second vocalist for weddings. Intend on DI’ing into Mackie 350s or my Fishman Sa220 if I need to.

Thanks in advance.

I own and use an AER Compact 60/2, and I love it... incredible sound from that little package! I play both 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars and sing through it, and it can "cut it" and do a very good job in some very sizeable rooms... and I've yet to have the master volume above 1/3 on the dial...

I told a good friend of mine about the AER and he ended up getting a used Domino... but I think his was a III? He likes it so much, he immediately sold off his JBL mains and the rest of his PA equipment, now using just the Domino...

His Domino seems essential 2 Compacts together... more overall wattage, I think, but it does have two 8" speakers, where the Compact has just one (AMAZING sound from that one 8" speaker, btw...). He has 4 input channels to use, which suits him for vocal, 12 string, 6 string and resonator guitar...

He actually bought through our Classifieds. Had a bit of trouble with the DI output, but it was an easy fix, just loose wires.

Look at the features of the Domino II and see if you like them... if the unit is clean and everything functions perfectly, I'd go ahead and buy it if it suits you...

AER makes really good gear... pricey, but REALLY good!

The Compact is a superb guitar amp, sounds great and vocals good through it as well.

Thanks for the input guys- I think I am going to go with the compact as I prefer to buy acoustic amps/pa stuff new- also I dont need a huge sound as I will be DIing into the desk for bigger gigs.

Last year a couple of us singer/songwriter types were to perform at a large ballroom where the PA was nonfunctioning so we had to choose one of our acoustic amps.

I own the compact 60 while my friend had the Domino.
The Domino was chosen as it was able to project much better than the compact 60.
We are talking about a large ballroom that can hold about 700 people.

So if you ever have to play in that sort of venue the compact 60 may be limited....

Ha ha with the state of live music here in the UK I'm lucky to pull 70- 700 might happen at a very big wedding or a corporate gig, but as I said, in that case, I would use PA and desk.

Thanks

After all that managed to try them both, the Compact was lovely but the sheer power of the Domino blew me away, so I ended up with the bigger amp after all. What a tone!!

Congratulations! I'm sure that either amp would have served you very well, but, as long as you don't mind the extra weight, the Domino is going to absolutely kick some serious butt!

Enjoy!

The domino is basically two compact 60s. I have the domino 2 and you have a little less control on the eq and effects on channels 3&4. The domino 3 gives you basically 4 independent channels.
IMO The domino is a fantastic amp for supporting a duo, almost a mini PA. If you pair it with an extension "slave" speaker you can cover a pretty large venue very well. Congrats on your acquisition!

Since you are talking aer compact, does anyone know the difference with the compact 60/3 vs the Tommy Emmanual compact 60. I read the effects are different but is it worth the extra $100.

I think the effect mimics the Alesis midi-verb
Effect that tommy likes. As far as the c60 goes
They are amazing sounding little amps I own one.
But I still bring my QSC k10 and a board to gigs.
As good as the c60 sounds it's still a big compromise
to my ears.. trading off size and portability for sound
quality. You have to draw that line somewhere.
