...and all that fretboard-finger-dancing done up high on the neck with no cutaway. Awesome.

Not taking anything away from the incredible talent and all round awesome player and composer Gareth is, but it all looks like straightforward travis picking.

TAB is available from Candy Rat, I reckon within a year you could have in down. Why delay, start today and post your version this time next year!

Tips? Practise and lots of it.

I was told Gareth had his guitar confiscated whilst at school. I presumed he took it in to practise during the lunch break. Nooooo oh no, he was practising in lessons! That's dedication for you

It's not really Travis picking, which is alternating bass with the thumb.

If you look closely at his right hand, what this guy is doing is arpeggiating, thumb-index-middle-ring, always in that order; sometimes maybe thumb-index-middle, like a banjo roll.
Of course he's doing it extremely fast, with some clever left-hand work too.

I slowed down the intro part, which seems to involve a little classical tremelo picking too, in that he's playing the same string with index and middle; ie, using thumb and 3 fingers to arpeggiate just 3 strings. Eg:
Code:
----------------------
----------------------
--------0--------------
----2-2-----------------
----------------------
--0--------------------

True, for the most part its a forward roll (but there is some TP in there)

This is probably a better book then as it covers rolls too...

it's hard for me to see clearly, but it doesn't look like he is using his a finger much at all. sometimes it looks like p-m-i-m but i can't quite tell.

Starts out with:

pipm pipm ...

The problem is to play that sort of pattern fast and accurate. I can't quite see if he has finger picks on (I think so) - that would help.

According to the TAB he sold me its actually...

-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
--------0-------------0-----------------0--------------0--
----2-2----------2-2-----------1-1----------------1-1----
---------------2-------------------------------2----------
--0-------------------------0------------------------------

But that doesn't mean this version is different!

So you could argue it's a travis picking alternate bass with a forward banjo roll
