Cleaning wood inside the guitar?
I have a guitar with some gunk stains on the inside where adhesive backed little wire clasps were. It makes the wood darker and nasty looking. Any way to clean this fairly dry porous wood? I wanna do it right the first time. What do you use to clean raw wood with no finish on it?

Me, I'd leave it alone.
Any solvent you put on the gunk will soak the gunk into the wood. Definitely not what you want. If the gunk is rubbery you might be successful rubbing it off with a fingertip or thumbnail. If that doesn't work, try sandpaper. The sandpaper will make the wood lighter. I'd try 150 grit and aim for taking off absolutely the minimum amount of wood.

I usually use naphtha. It cleans up most gunk, doesn't react with most finishes, and it evaporates quickly.
