I'm still experimenting with settings on the pre-amp and compressor...I like what I'm hearing too !!!! It seems as though the tubes have finally warmed up and are putting out a very nice tone.

I read up on the mid side micing and yes I can do it but haven't as of yet. I'm getting my best results from the mics placed at 18" apart, directly 12"-16" in front of the guitar. I have the mics placed on my computer desk, so yes they may pick up a bit of fan noise. I'm doing it this way for the sake of convenience so I can easily adjust the knobs on the pre-amp and compressor. Later on I'll move the mics into the other room to get quieter recordings but until I get a handle of the new gear I'll be recording in my computer room.

Disclaimer---all of my tracks that are posted here are raw tracks, meaning no EQ or other effects applied, just the pre-amp and compressor. Most of the tracks were done with one take, so yes you will hear some sloppy playing. These are just test recordings meant to test out the new equipment.

All tracks were recorded with the MXL Blizzard 4000 on the left channel and Neumann TLM 102 on the right, except for the bass track which was a direct in recording.

My opinion of the ART equipment is that it is laid out very well, simple to operate, and sounds great to me. Recordings done with this setup should be very easy to mix when I get to that stage.

I still have some more experiments to do with the plate voltage setting....

A reminder, the stock tubes in both ART pieces were replaced. Telefunken tubes in the pre-amp, and Mullard tubes in the compressor.
