Default Static noise from pickguard help

Hi Guys,

I play a Yamaha 1500ES semi acoustic and have a problem with static noise coming from the pickguard. If I rub my fingers on the guard while playing the static noise is quite obvious, like a crackling sound.

Does anyone have a fix for this or any idea what might be causing it?

Cheers

Jeremy

I usually wipe down my Tele pickguard with a sheet of fabric softener in the winter when the air is dry. It immediately stops static pops from coming into contact with it. Be warned, though-if you get too happy about it, you'll get a greasy coating on your pickguard, but it's easy enough to clean off with a paper towel, etc.

i keep one by my computer/music system and rub my fingers on it before touching any electronic gear, mostly, when it is dry with low humidity. i even keep one in my car to keep from getting zapped.

play music!

Just run a ground wire from the pickguard mounting bracket to any grounded point on the pickup harness through the f-hole. Should prevent static electric build up.
