When we bought 100 feet of George L cable and a bunch of George L ends 7 years back, we made up 6 inch, 1 foot, and 4 foot patch cables for the purpose of short spans (like preamps sitting on top of amps, or guitar to a belt pack).

So far in 7 years of weekly road use, not one of the patches has failed us. We made them up in both straight and 90° versions. Surprisingly, we reach for the straight ends far more often than right angle...
