Default Older Guitar, New Guitar Day: 1997 Jackson JRS2

Actually brought her home this past weekend, but haven't had a good amount of playing time until the last few days. She's a 1997 Jackson JRS2. Made in Japan for only 1-ish years. 300 made. Have been reading a ton lately about Japanese-made guitars from the golden years, this one popped up on CL (although not from the period generally accepted as prime Japan craftsmanship) and it was pretty inexpensive ($450). As you can see, I pulled the trigger.

What amazes me is that this type of guitar is as far away from what I thought I would enjoy playing as I could get. One pup, one volume control, reverse headstock, and this wide, flat, potato-chip-thin neck intended for Goth "A Clockwork Orange" looking shredder types.

But from the moment I held her, it seemed I had owned this guitar for some time already. Other than tuning---the reverse headstock takes a little getting used to---it feels "favorite pair of old jeans" right. Everything is in the right place.

Plus, I have a bunch of other guitars (WAY more than a hack like myself deserves), nearly all of them American, and most that set me back quite a bit more than the Jackson. Schooled myself I guess. Live and learn. Here's the gist:

That works fine.

The functional simplicity of that guitar is elegant.
