Default Which are your favourite songs to play on electric?

So guys,

Which songs do you like to play most and that also get a good reaction from your listeners? Maybe not the overplayed GnR Sweet Child of Mine tunes, but are there any other still well know but not overplayed songs that do down well?

Lotsa old Ventures/Shadows/surf (Slaughter on 10th Avenue, Caravan, Driving Guitars, Apache, Telstar, Scarlett O'Hara, Out of Limits, Penetration, etc.), first-generation guitar instrumentals (Duane Eddy, Lonnie Mack, etc.), early British Invasion (Beatles cover versions/B-sides, Searchers, Animals, Stones), Motown/Atlantic/Stax-Volt R&B, Brill Building/Phil Spector/NYC R&R (girl groups, Drifters, Four Seasons, Jay & the Americans); get a good response across three generations - mine grew up on this stuff, Gen-Xer's heard it growing up, millennials are discovering it for the first time...

Trying to get the hang of ZZ Top's "Waitin' for the Bus" and "Jesus Just Left Chicago"...
Not necessarily exactly like the Li'l Ol' Band from Texas does it.

For whatever reason, when I first pick up my guitar I usually warm up with "Steppin' Out" by the Bluesbreakers and "Something for Nothing" by Rush, followed by assorted noodling. All poorly rendered.

Wow. Great stuff Mike. I love he tone your getting on the clips I had time to listen to. What amp/pickups/effects were you using on "Sexy Funk"?

I've been gravitating towards Joe Walsh's solo and James Gang stuff lately. Great musicianship and phrasing there.

Playing "Turn To Stone" on a maxed out Super Reverb takes a good set of earplugs, but MAN what a tremendous sound!

Hello,

Thanks so much for the appreciation.

I plugged my guitar straight into my ZOOM G5 -> Mixer -> Sound card of PC -> Cubase 7.5

with my tube amp it sounds even better.

I use 100% custom Pickups made by a cool factory after my own personal taste and design. I had to order a bunch of pickups, tough )

here are some videos - https://www.youtube.com/user/VlahopolGuitars/videos of my custom guitars

I have 8 models of pickups in a wide variety of sounds for all styles.

The are so versatile - that is my idea and what I am looking for. I don't want a guitar player to buy 5 guitars in order to get more sounds.

I have studied MANY pickups for 2-3 years and came up with my own...
Here...
1. - https://soundcloud.com/mike-vlahopol/sexy-funk
2 - https://soundcloud.com/mike-vlahopol/such-satch

Same guitar different styles, different sounds and "colors" in the sound.

I can go from blues, funk and rock with one guitar.

IF you want I can send you some links - I have a website and a facebook official page

My Vlahopol Custom Pickups are:

Shark Bite C - Bridge - 14.3 Ko
Shark Attack C - Bridge - 24-25 Ko
GREY SHARK - AV - Bridge - 17.3 - 17.5 Ko

BIG SHARK - A III - Neck - 15 Ko
BLUE SHARK C - Neck - 13.8 Ko
Zebra Shark - AV - Neck - 8.4 Ko

Great White Shark I - Middle - 8.6 KO - single coil
Great White Shark II - All positions - 11.3Ko - vertical coils
These last two models have a little hisss on high gain drive

Anything from the Ventures...my all-time favorite guitar heroes. I learned to play by listening to them.

A pointless post , because I don't know any electric tunes , as I haven't even set my electric up yet , but I listen to a lot of electric guitar music . I have since the late 60's. Nowadays it's a lot of Bill Nelson , some Steve Morse , a bit of Satch , Jimi , Trower , and the like . Nelson will end up having the most influence when I get more into playing electric. His EBow work and palette of tones is the best .Now I'm dorking around with EBow and my Lowden , and just picked up some pedals (delay, synth wah, and a Boss Slicer) . Who knows what the heck is going to come out ? .... and that's the exciting part .

Lots of electric blues, but Born Under A Bad Sign is very high on the list. Outside Woman Blues is another, just a great, memorable riff. I also like to play Peaceful Easy Feeling, so many great opportunities for lyrical bending, and a compelling melody that makes a great solo. I also play an electric on Poncho and Lefty; there isn't much space for adding fills, but I have a nice little counter-melody I play to complement the vocal.
