A plug for Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers

We had a chance to check out Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers tonight. What a band!

At intermission, my 12 yo daughter and I got to meet with the guys, who were very nice, down to earth, and who encouraged my girl to "keep picking". She was super-excited to get a free pick and sticker ("Now I finally have a sticker for my guitar case!" she said.) During the show, she asked a lot of questions about picks and mic placement, etc.

Almost as much as their musicianship, I was impressed with their stage presence. We were in a barn (where all bluegrass should be played, right?), and they seemed truly happy to be there. They had an easy, friendly banter among themselves. Joe, a long-time radio personality, was especially cool, telling funny stories and joking with the crowd.

They were joined by fiddler Michael Cleveland. Just wow....
