Default Acoustic Open Mic, Wednesday September 24, Dracut, MA

You’re invited to my Open Mic in Dracut, MA at the Boathouse on Wednesday, September 24. This is an every-other-week event, so the next open mic after that will be on October 8. This open mic may be discontinued after October - the bar management is contemplating staying closed most weekday evenings.

If you’re not a solo/acoustic player but would like to play at the open mic, contact me at my email address below so we can figure out what songs we can do together.
Even if you don’t want to play, this is still a fun event to attend and a good opportunity to network with other musicians – maybe you’ll find that band member or band you’ve been looking for!

At Back to the Boathouse the drinks are always flowing from bartender Trisha and the kitchen is open with food from Chef Rob – a great location overlooking scenic Mascuppic Lake. There is even free pool!

Acoustic guitar available to borrow; need accompaniment - let me know through the FB event page. Mics, cables, music stand provided; stage with lights; full bar and pub food available. Photos and videos!

This is an acoustic Open Mic, not a ‘jam’. Electric instruments are ok, but you don’t need to bring an amp, just plug into the PA. Please: no drum kits (due to set-up time), but hand drums are welcome. Duo/trio/band? No problem - there’s a 12 channel mixer. If you need more than 3 mics, let me know ahead of time.
Sign-ups start at 6:45, the open mic runs from 7-11pm and we go in order of sign-up. We’ve been getting an average of 12 players/bands each week, so most times everyone gets to do up to 4 songs.. If you sign up, but can’t stick around until your chance to play, let me know and I’ll make sure you get up early next time you come. Photos and videos of all performers are taken and posted on Facebook. If you want a whole song videoed, let me know.

If you would like to get updates on future Open Mics email me directly at [email protected] Any questions, just ask!

EASY DIRECTIONS (also on the Facebook event page)
Google Maps or GPS are likely to take you on a convoluted path to get to the club in Dracut. Here are the best routes:

From I-93
Exit 46, west 9.5 miles on Rte 110 towards Lowell. Stay on the road next to the Merrimack River (don’t turn off to the rotary leading across the river in Lowell to follow Rte 110), it becomes the VFW Highway at this point. Take a right on Mammoth Road (church on corner near you, McDonalds on other side), stay on Mammoth Road for 1.6 miles, through a blinking yellow light, through a 4-way stop with blinking red light. At 3rd traffic light bear left onto Nashua Rd. Go 1.2 miles, after sharp bend to the left, take left onto Tyngsboro Rd. The Boathouse is 0.7 miles on the left.

From Rte 3
Exit 35, east 2.5 miles on Rte 113 towards Lowell. After crossing the river, Rte 113 goes right. Left on Butterfield Rd (1st left after Tyngsboro Country Club). This is a short road, take a right at the end onto Sherburne, go 0.5 miles and take left on Willowdale Rd 1.5 miles. This becomes County Road, follow to end, left on Tyngsboro Rd, the Boathouse is 0.1 miles on left.

Alas, it was the final open mic I'm hosting there (unless I get 'the call' sometime in the future, in which case my fee goes up!)

I'm going to a final OM tonight, too. The host is giving up after eight years ... he wasn't much of a host ... got paid in a free meal and beer all night. He never introduces acts, is never at the sound board (didn't matter, he doesn't know what all those little knobs do anyway), and many of the great players that used to show up years ago have long since gone elsewhere. I go only because I like the food, and it's just five minutes from my house. I meet a few friends there and we usually put something together on the spot. The host announced his departure last month, and no one wants to pick it up. It's gotten to the point that we refer to the place as "the house of pain". No kidding.

I considered running it, but the owner won't pay a nickel to the host, and I don't make money for someone else without getting a taste myself.

Yeah, without pay, an open mic is way too much work to host unless you can use it for other purposes (like band practice).
