Default The little things...

I swapped out the strings on my McKnight guitar this weekend, the first swap out since I bought it.

I am still a little giddy over the discovery that the bridge pins are numbered to correspond to their string position.

I think changing the strings voids the warranty! Don't tell Tim.

I had asked Tim at one of the first McJams why he numbered them. The pins and the slots for them are very tightly made, so each pin fits perfectly. Made sense to me.

I'll give you a 'boy howdy' on that observation.

Reluctant to put pliers anywhere within 10' of the bridge, I opted for pressure from below to push out all the pins. There was no grabbing and pulling from above. Not happening, no way.

The High E required a "sock wrapped hard thing " as a hammer to gently tap it out.

(no damage, none at all, breathe Tim, breathe, it's all good!)

Now that's what I call a CUSTOM build! I like it.

I told Tim, I love this about his guitars. Makes one wonder why more luthiers don't do this .... hmmm! Their loss!

Agreed. The only other luthier I know who does this is Dennis Kwasnycia.

When this sometimes happen with me, I use a coin (a quarter) to get underneath there and apply pressure. Works well. I hadn't thought of wrapping it in something soft......that would do the trick!

Great idea! I think I'll do that on the next string change.

I always pull them in order and lay them so they go back in the same way, I never thought to mark them.
