Best condesner microphone
For years I have been using the Electro Voice RE 410 which is a great mic also the Heil PR 35 which is supurb nice hot output.
Recently had my eye on the Shure Beta 87c. A busker friend a few years back mentioned this mic it'sounds almost the same as the Shure Beta 87a . I did have one of those mics but a friend has it for now. The only difference is the 87C is cardioid while the 87a is supercardoid. I ordered mine from Amazon , it came in a couple of days. I have been using it for a week and I must say it's very smooth. Supurb warm detailed sound even when pushed it doesn't sound harsh . It retains its sweetness. Some reviews say when using it in a band setting it can pick up the drums etc. But for solo singer/guitarist I would recommend it. The 87a was also good but can sound a bit harsh on the high end. The Shure Beta 87c is the best mic I have ever had. A real joy to sing through. It really does flatter your voice it reminds me of the Nuemann KMS 104 but almost half the price. Plus I find the output a bit hotter then the 87a. Dave Last edited by Mr Blues; 09-05-2016 at 08:47 AM. |

Your experience mirrors mine (I can't say that I've ever liked the hyped top end on the 87a, but the 87c is a totally different mic). You should though, A/B your 87c vs. the SM86. The SM86 is a much bigger sounding mic that, besides being less expensive than the Beta series condensers, sounds even better IMO.

Yes they are good I have one. Definable more output then both the 87a and 87c but I find the 87c has a really sweet smooth sound that suits my voice well.
Yesterday I tried it with my TC Helicon R1 Reverb pedal and that sounded really nice. Dave |
