I had the opportunity to go to Ray's shop today and Larry was there picking up his guitar. After recieving a nice tour of Ray's shop and old tools he is rebuilding, we stepped into the room where he does the majority of his guitar work. Larry was in there playing while we were recieving the tour. My first impression as I walked through the door was WOW that guitar is loud. The amount of projection and the responsiveness of the guitar was amazing. My next thought as I listened to Larry play (a special treat for sure) was I didn't know a guitar could sound like that. It was the most complete sounding guitar I have ever heard. It had full bodied, rich overtones with pin point clarity at the same time. It was like drinking a wonderful glass of wine, it taste wonderful at first, but the more you savor it the more you realize what is packed in to it. Each note was like that! I have heard all of these talks about woods, and Larry has EI rosewood and Adi top on this guitar. After listening to this instrument I don't know what else you could ask for in a guitar. I am tempted to tell Ray, build me that in a Mod D.

After Larry finished playing, he graciously allowed me to hold a pick a few notes on this guitar. My initial impression was how light it was. It was very light and extremely well balanced. The 24" scale was surprisingly nice, it would not take long to get accustomed to. While some of the finer points would be different for me, Ray met Larry's needs flawlessly as far as I could tell. Both of these gentleman have been very helpful to me and I can't thank them enough. Larry has been very generous with his time and knowledge as has Ray. For anyone looking for a handmade guitar I would take a long hard look at Ray. I know I am.

That's a great sound, Larry. Hope you can get down to the Greenville/Spartangburg SC area sometime.

This guitar is beyond incredible. I am still in awe of the sound that this guitar produced. The video that Larry posted does not even come close to the beauty of the sound of this guitar. The notes were so deep and rich all the while maintaining such crystal clarity. It was quite embarassing to pick the few notes I did on this guitar after Larry played it. Ray's guitars are a masterpeice of sound and function, with and aesthetic all of their own. I wish that I could communicate the sound that this guitar produced and describe how much better it sounds than the video. I can't stop thinking about it, and it has been days now since I was able to hear it.

Wow Larry,

Beautiful composition such a relaxing melody to enjoy,
Wonderful playing!

Compliments to Raymond as well, that's a beautiful guitar in every way.

While my personal tastes usually lean to the traditional in terms of guitar
design, I find this guitar to just be really cool!

Any plans in the works to visit Southern California?

Very nice video, great composition, very nice playing, Larry. Thank you for posting your video so that we could all get some vicarious enjoyment from your journey with Ray and bringing this unusual guitar to life. Good luck in your continuing journey. I hope your health issues hold off for a while so you can enjoy this guitar without too much worry.

Best regards, Glenn

This was beautiful. Both the guitar, and the playing.
