Beautiful....I like the fret markers and the carryover of the theme to the headstock. Very very nice....I had pretty much forgone a SJ, thinking that it's too big for me now (I'm really liking OM and smaller guitars, like Joel's Aud and 00-12), but after seeing your pics, I may have to reconsider the SJ with Joel. The body shape is very attractive....Congrats! Now it's up to Joe, hopefully he's worked through his backlog (I think he has) so he can turn it around quickly.

I also really like the fret markers and headstock design. Very classy and good clean design! Looks like a winner!

Thanks all, can't wait to see her under finish. I am considering a short road trip to Mr.Whites to see his shop. The design cues reflect some Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration..we visited Oak Park, illiinois to tour some homes and his studio. As for the SJ....I too am thinking smaller these days...but with the bevel and a small reduction in depth....plus my tonal request was a guitar that was "inexplicably deep" ....so hopefully the SJ with the Maddie will get it done.

Congrats Greyhound!! What a sweet looking guitar. I take it the inlays and headstock are your design ideas. Very creative. I have a Stehr SJ also, and it is far and away my all time(to date) favorite guitar. I absolutely love it! I also get compliments on the tone on a regular basis. You've got yourself a winner there. Tom

Love the consistency of the theme carried throughout the guitar. Stehr builds amazing looking guitars... would love to play one sometimes.

Primary headstock design was mine...we worked together to reign in my thoughts and what can be properly done on a guitar. For a while..I was trying to work a copper element into the design....in the end that was not practical. Joel helped refine my design meanderings and we went thru a few fret marker ideas together to settle on something that carried the theme in a simple way. Joel came up with the segmented rosette...he said it is one of the more difficult ones he has done...he nailed it.
As to playing a Stehr....I acquired an early Stehr (spalted maple) in a somewhat twisted deal on the AGF....Joel tells me he has come .....alongggg waaayy since this guitar both tonally and fit and finish.....but I gotta tell you it sounds really good! Can't wait to hear Joels work almost 50 guitars later.

The overall design is exquisite. I really love the light-colored wood on the fretboard. What kind of wood is that?

Small jumbos are really very comfortable to play. They don't feel like big guitars. I have 2 Gibson J185s and they are very comfy for me to play. I also have an ES175 which has the same body profile as the J185 and that is also a very comfy archtop to play. Now my Guild Jumbo 12 is a differant story. It's amazing how big a differance 1" makes when comparing a 16" sj to a 17" super jumbo.

What an excellent example of original design. Really nice work! It's going to look really good when finished.

Drive south the fretboard is EIR trimmed in Maple. The inlaid squares are Padauk, Bloodwood and Madagascar as I recall....
