Default Seagull Grand

I thought that because of my interest in Taylors, their Baby might be a good choice for my twelve-year-old daughter as a starter guitar. The problem I wasn't able to get around is they look and sound like toys to me.

Well, I was at a small guitar shop in the area on Saturday, and the owner showed me a Seagull Grand. I couldn't believe how full and rich this little thing sounded -- ten times better than the Baby. It has great intonation all the way up the neck, great action, and a really comfortable neck. It has a solid cedar top, laminated cherry back and sides, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard and bridge for about the price of a Baby. This is no toy.

Has anyone else had any experience with this guitar? It seems like it is pretty well made. I did buy one for her for Christmas.

M.

The Seagull line of guitars is Canadian made and arguably the best intermediate acoustic guitars on the market for the price and quality. I'm not just saying this because I'm Canadian -- I've read opinions all over the web that attest to this. I've plyed some and have to agree with your assessment ('tho I've never played a Taylor Baby)

I'm buying two of the Seagull S6 20th Anniversary model for my two sons for Christmas, which are now available (one with solid spruce top, the other cedar; mahogany back and sides; both with high-gloss finish). They're more expensive than the regular (satin finish) S6 and retail at Cdn$500 ea. (incl. "The Fort" case) -- that's about US$325.

Here's the link if you wanna check 'em out...
