Smile Pic of one of my guitars

I have'nt yet got round to getting hold of a digicam to take a photo of my new Lakewood M20, but thought you may find this interesting:

http://www.chrismharris.com/taylor/lakewooda14.gif

It's my first Lakewood custom guitar. The details are:

Top - Cedar
B/Sides - Mahogony
Cutaway - Soft
Inlay - Mahogony and pearl rosette, magic symbol fretboard inlay of pearl
Neck - Ebony Lakewood intermediate 46mm width, 12th fret body join
Finish - Natural satin
Bindings - Solid maple
Body size - A series, similar to Taylor x12, only slightly deeper.

The guitar is used mainly for pick work, having a warmer tone than the M20 (my fingerstyle guitar), the wider string spacing helps towards more accurate picking. Hopefully this will keep Meridian satisfied until I can get a pic of the M20 Many thanks must go to Chris for letting me use his webspace to post this pic......Cheers, Jim

Nice axe. If I have the cash, I think a Lakewood would be the next guitar in my stable. But I simply cannot afford GAS.

NICE guitar! Congratulations. But seeing it just makes me want to hear it. Is it as "classical" sounding, with the brighter steel strings, as I imagine? Any chance you could post an mp3 of it?

Can't wait to see pictures of your M20, and would love to hear it, too. I'm unfamiliar with Lakewoods except by reputation, and look forward to trying one out some day.

Ya know, for a single make guitar forum, we sure do enjoy enjoying other fine guitars as well!

Cotten,
Thanks for the compliments. I will be recording with both this guitar and the M20 soon for an album of predominently original material on CD Baby. The sound is quite contempory in that it has a brightish top end but also a warm mid range in the best tradition of cedar guitars. Obviously it does not have the bass depth of a bigger guitar, it's very intimate and easy to play due to the shorter neck. The extra spacing is great for plectrum work and I plan on getting light gauge flat wound strings, most likely Thomastik Infeld Plectrum series AC111s for it, which sound very smooth, are low tension and have a sound completely their own. The M20 being bigger has more power but is lively, which as it's my fingerpicker is exactly what I need due to the fact that I play using fingertips and not nails. Hopefully when I have done the recording you'll get a chance to hear them, maybe beforehand i'll be able to post something, i'll be getting my website sorted sometime soon...jim

p.s - The acceptance of guitarists playing whatever suits them rather than a particular guitar brand on this forum is fantastic.

Sure is purdy
I like the looks of the Lakewood line. Sure would be fun to hear one.

That's a beauty. It reminds me a bit of some Lowdens I've seen, but without meaning to diss Lowdens, this Lakewood is prettier. That's an especially dark piece of cedar, and the maple binding sets it off very nicely.

What's the pickup?

It's a Fishman soundhole Rare Earth blender. Very little intrusion into the guitar as only one hole drilled is required for the endpin and thats it...Sounds very natural plugged in.

Thanks, Jim. I got an REB for my 714 a couple of months ago and have been talking it up ever since (great tone), but I don't see them too often, especially on custom guitars. How do you have the mic positioned?
