Acoustic Amps
I am thinking of purcahsing an relatively inexpensive, around $400, acoustic amp. I know there are products from Fender, Marshall, and Crate in that price range.
Anybody have any feedback on any of these amps or ones from other manufacturers? Thanks! Joe |

What will you be using it for?
For UNDER 400 dollars, I think the Marshall AS50R is the best offering...ive never really liked the fender line except for the acoustasonic SFX which is more money.... Crates are completely overpriced.

I have a Crate CA-60D. Nice amp for the money. Last time I was at Elderly they had several used ones (and a CA-120) that were very good deals.

I bought an Ibanez Troubadour 25, mainly because
it was cheap, about $200 bucks new. Has built in chorus and reverb and if you play around with knobs it can sound quite good. |

I have one of the Fender Acoustasonic 30 amps and while I realize some are happy with theirs, I'm not particularly fond of mine. I feel like it sounds metallic and that it's hard to dial in a good tone. Why I chose it is a long story for another time... a mistake of being in a hurry.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I am quite happy with my Crate CA30D. It sounds good and clean and has more than enough power for a bedroom supertar.

I got $100 off on my Fender Acoustonic SFX from Musicians Friend. It was in the scratch and dent section, but I can find no scratches or dents. It sounds good, but it is HEAVY.

I use a Crate taxi 30 with a zoom 504 II effects pedal. The taxi runs for (many) hours on internal dry cell rechargable battery, accepts a mic input and other insert device. Sound is superb. Total price for both is under 300.

Be sure to check-out the Carvin AG100D. It's the amp I bought new about 5 months ago. Like it a lot. Great value for the money ($449). 100w, and the only 3 channel on the market (can run your acoustic, electric and XLR mic all set up as per what you want on individual channels, with independent assignable effects).

I have a small 30 crate-it seems to be ok. I also have a Genz Benz 85w -2 channels w/ effects and sends. Fantastic unit.

I think that the SWR Strawberry Blonde and the Genz-Benz Shenandoah 35 are probably in that price range (at least where I've been shopping). I like both of those amps. To my ears, they color the sound less than some of the others.
