Default "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean" - Blind Lemon Jefferson/Bob Dylan cover

Thought you all might like this cover of "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean."

We walked into the studio a couple of Sundays ago a little after noon with no idea what we were going to do other than record a Dylan tune. We settled on this one (a cover he did on his first album), sorted out an arrangement, and tracked it all by 3:45.

Guitar is a Waterloo WL-12 with VERY dead strings tuned to DADGAD and capo'd on the second fret. Banjo is a 1927 Bacon & Day. Both recorded with a Neumann KM184 into an FMR Audio RNP. Rhodes and Hammond are digital (and doctored a bit in post-production to add some grit). Vocal was tracked with a Warm Audio WA14 into a GAP Pre-73 and pushed a bit for saturation.

This is part of a larger project (all on Bandcamp) where we are tracking Tom Waits and Dylan tunes with this singer.

I hope you enjoy!

Wonderful job on this recording! Well done!

I remember this song from Peter, Paul and Mary from way back in my high school years. I used to play this.

I really like the lead singer's voice!

We think she's really, really special. And she makes us feel really, really old (she's about half our age and we're her mother's age!).

Thanks! We love the ones that happen fast like this. It keeps us from futzing around too much “producing” it and forces us to let the song do its thing.

This vocal, by the way, was one take (except for punch at the very end where her phone added some digital clicking on the fade at the end).

Thanks! I need to put her in touch with IAMA. She writes the saddest ukulele songs I’ve ever heard.
