In my own case I am majorly inspired to play and learn when I pick up a really nice instrument.

Haha [emoji38]

Do you think having a great guitar encouraged you to practise more? [emoji41]

I'm definitely not good enough for the guitars I own but don't care, they're great examples and I enjoy owning them and can appreciate the craftsmanship.

Though it's trivial, "grabbed" means "grabbed," and obviously some people were rightly shocked by the behavior as described. Poor word choice -- not a big deal, but unintentionally misleading. Please be accurate. As for the experience of hearing someone else play your guitar, in addition to whatever technical expertise may be involved, there's also the simpler matter of hearing it dead on instead of from the top/rear direction the player usually experiences. BTW, David Crosby once played a short set on my Collings '96 0002HCE. That was something.

It's wonderful when a great player plays one of your instruments, and you learn in a very finite way what the possibilities can be.
I have so appreciated this forum and I have learned so much about wood acoustic guitars. I've been playing electric guitar since 1968, and acoustic guitar only since 2011. I have seen/heard so much improvement in my playing and tone since I joined here, because AGF encourages me to practice more. Some of my acoustic guitars out class my abilities, but I'm slowly appreciating them and catching up.
Many thanks to the creators and contributors to this great place.

Guitars are just like currency. You never really own them, they are just passing through.

It's a figure of speech, ferchrissakes. Plenty of people understood what he meant, without the need for pedantry.

"Pedantry", the perfect word in this instance. You learn something every day.

I'm with you dneal...jeeesh. When I say I'm "going out to grab a bite", I don't think anyone takes me literally? The words may literally mean I'm going to forcibly "grab" someone or something and bite it. But all I mean is a quick lunch.

Op, I got what you meant. And no need to feel anything buy joy for playing a nice guitar, whatever your playing level is. If it makes you smile it was money well spent.

I'm in the same boat, but I'd guess you're a better player than me. I don't even have $2400 total invested in my J15 and D18. I know a couple guys who are crazy talented pickers, and they play $250-300 guitars. One was looking at my old E10D. I offered it to him for $500. He absolutely loved it, but said he could never justify spending that much on a guitar. He has $3-4K mountain and road bikes, but the guitar ceiling is south of $500. Go figure.

I can't stand all this fake news that is so abundant in music journalism these days!

Oh, absolutely...

Every time I looked at that beautiful guitar, I wanted to pick it up and play...

I'm still the same way today, I look, I pick it up to play for "just a little while" and I lose track of time...

I'll never be Joe Pro, but I'm still amazed that I can just pick up a guitar and actually play music anytime I want...
